Learn to SUP in 4 two-hour lessons
You don’t need any water experience to learn to use a touring stand-up paddleboard (SUP). These SUPs go faster and farther than recreational ones. Get the 4 Pack for one person to take the four 2-hour lessons in order: SUP Basics 1, 2, 3, then 4. You can get lessons for $75 each but they can’t be re-combined into a 4 pack later.
Take one lesson per week for the most effective learning experience and a 45-min rental in the cove in the meantime (optional). Developing proprioception on water can’t be rushed. Most learners feel clumsy at first and start enjoying themselves after Basics 4. It takes several longer trips for that ah ha! moment when things click into place.
SUP Basics 1: Don’t let its name fool you: Basics 1 is the most fundamental lesson. Learn to outfit yourself and the board, then try strokes in calm water. Learn the quick easy way to fall off the board and get back on.
SUP Basics 2: Gain confidence and learn to dial into your core and legs for stability. Start to turn around buoys and go straight while standing.
SUP Basics 3: Develop each stroke into a circuit of repeated motions. Begin to establish a rhythmic pace. Proprioception will be developing across the board.
SUP Basics 4: Learn about river safety then paddle out into the river to try out your newfound skills in the waves and wind.
After Basics 4, you’re eligible for Intermediate trips. Start with the Little Island, Golden Hour, or River Crossing Trips.
