FAQs

What if I want to go farther on the river?

Rentals stay in the calm cove–but if you’re ready to paddle past the piers and explore beyond, join our NYC Kayaking Tour or start with our beginner classes to work your way toward longer guided river trips.

Do I need a reservation?

Yes—especially on weekends. Book right here on this page with live availability. We almost always sell out, and walk-ins can’t be guaranteed. Book online now to lock in your spot and skip the lines.

Can I come the same day?

If there’s space, yes. But on busy days we turn people away. We recommend reserving in advance if you’re sure you want to paddle.

Is the water clean?

Yes. The Hudson River is safe for kayaking and paddle boarding. We regularly test water quality, and we only operate when it’s safe to be on the water.

What if I don’t know how to swim?

You don’t need to! Everyone wears a coast guard-approved life jacket that keeps you floating even if you’re not moving. Plus, our staff monitors the water at all times from nearby safety boats. If you want extra reassurance, add a Mini Lesson.

Can I bring my kids or dog?

Yes! Kids 3–5 and dogs ride free with an adult. Just book whatever boat you’d like—we’ll help fit your child/dog when you arrive. If it doesn’t work, we’ll switch you to another boat, no problem. Child and dog life jackets provided.

Is my 45-minute rental separate from the mini or coach lesson?

Lessons are optional. They happen during your rental—right on the water with your boat. With a Mini, you’ll get help at the start, then paddle on your own for 35 minutes. With a Coach, your full 45 minutes is guided. If you’d like extra time on the water before or after, you can book adjacent sessions when reserving online.

Is this the same as free kayaking?

Not quite. Some places in NYC offer 20-minute sessions and don’t take reservations, so there are often long waits.
We offer 45-minute sessions, online booking, and the option to add a lesson.
You’ll also have access to lockers, changing rooms, restrooms, rinse station, and indoor bike racks! 🚴
