How It Works

Unlike kayaking—where sitting low offers relative stability—paddleboarding places your center of gravity higher above the water. Your legs, hips, and core act as a shock absorber while power travels from your feet to your fingertips. Paddlers who self-teach on calm water or rely on their arms will tire out quickly in wind and waves.

Why a 4-Week Series? Whether you’re a beginner or a vet looking for professional guidance, one-off classes aren’t sufficient in this sport. Over four weeks, you’ll train with the same small group of six paddlers under dedicated coaching. Graduate with genuine confidence you can take anywhere and lasting paddle partners.

💡 How Paddleboard Scheduling Works:
Unlike our Kayak Basics 1-2-3 packs, where you can stagger class dates, Paddleboard Basics is a dedicated 4-week progressive program, plus a 5th week rain date. Dates are not interchangeable or skippable, ensuring consistent group progression and real skill building.

The 4-Week Curriculum

Week 1: Fundamental Mechanics

Building your foundation. Discover the gear that best fits your body from our fleet. Learn fluid transitions between seated, kneeling, and standing positions so you stay comfortable over time. Build your forward and turning strokes from feet to fingertips, replacing arm-heavy habits with full-body mechanics.

Week 2: Balance & Control

Moving from reactive to proactive. Progress from reactive balancing to proactive paddling, absorbing choppy water gracefully while standing. Refine blade placement for straight-line tracking and less zigzagging. Practice cross-bow turning strokes and a controlled capsize and remount.

Week 3: On-Water Laps & Video Analysis

Knowing thyself. Put your Week 1 and 2 skills into practice in front of a video camera. Sit with the group to analyze your form and have plenty of laughs on our big screen. Seeing yourself unlocks self-awareness fast. Head back onto the water to apply new insights and movement patterns.

Week 4: Benchmark & Graduation

Putting it all together. Apply personalized coaching notes carried over from your Week 3 video review to refine your stroke and lock in good habits. Put your skills to work on an extended group paddle. Reach a comfortable 3 mph continuous pace and navigate chop with ease.

🎓 Graduation: Complete the program to earn full clearance for our weekly Wednesday evening Tempo Paddle and Sunday morning SUPer Trips, joining our regular trained paddling community.

Series Policy & Weather

🔁 72+ Hours Before Class 1: Get credit or reschedule to a future series. No refunds.

⚠️ Under 72 Hours: No refunds or reschedules. Spots are fixed so cohorts meet our minimum size to run. All 4 classes are required to graduate. If you miss a class, you may book a $99 Private Make-Up Lesson or attend the rest of your series without official graduation status.

🌧️ Weather Cancellations: Classes are in our protected cove right outside our boathouse, where we can take refuge during passing showers. If a session is canceled due to heavy rain, storms, or high wind (notified 2+ hours ahead), your cohort automatically uses the reserved 5th-week buffer date to ensure you receive all 10 hours of instruction.

.

Essentials & Amenities

We supply premium paddleboards, paddles, safety leashes, dry bags, and life jackets—so don’t buy a board yet! Join us on the water first to test different options from our fleet, including inflatable paddleboards as featured in New York Magazine’s The Strategist.

What to bring: Please wear synthetic clothing or athletic swimwear that you don’t mind getting wet, plus athletic sandals or sneakers for when we’re on land. All paddlers have full access to our indoor lockers, secure bike racks, changing rooms, restrooms, and outdoor rinse station.
